Condon Breaks Single Season Home Run Record

On Thursday May 9th, the college baseball world got a new single season home run record holder in the BBCOR era. Charlie Condon hit his 34th home run against South Carolina to become the newest leader.

Not only is he hitting a ridiculous amount of home runs, but he is having one of the best seasons ever. Which seems crazy because we said the same exact thing about Dylan Crews’ season last year, and Condon’s numbers are better. Condon hit his 34th home run in his 48th game this season. In the SEC. That is insane. For reference, Jac Caglianone set the record last year with 33 home runs, and he hit his last one in his 71st game. When Condon hit his record breaking home run, it was also his 8th straight game with a home run.

It is May 16th, with one more regular season weekend ahead, and his numbers are: .454 AVG, 34 HR, 72 RBI, 88 hits, 75 runs scored. These numbers are absolutely bananas. Not to compare, but to compare, Dylan Crews’ Golden Spikes season numbers last year were: .429 AVG, 14 HR, 57 RBI, 81 hits, and 78 runs scored. Condon is clearly the runaway favorite for Golden Spikes this year.

Charlie Condon is your new BBCOR era single season home run king. The all-time home run king is Pete Incaviglia from Oklahoma State. He went for 48 home runs in 75 games back in 1985. It’ll be tough, but if we see a deep SEC tourney run followed by a deep Omaha run from Georgia, we could see Condon close in on it if he stays hot.
